Kyrkmalmen, the cultural centre of
the area
In the beginning of the 20 th century this was the centre of
Älvsbyn. Today you can visit the church and the parish hall, the art
centre and the bakery museum.
The Church
Cruciform church, built 1808-13.
The Church Cottages
The old church cottages were built in the early part of the 20th
century and are still owned and used by parishioners living outside
the municipality.
The Bakerymuseum
The bakery museum is an example of craftsmanship tradition. In the
museum you can see an oven dating back to the 1920´s and a café with
an interior from the same time.
Memorial - The royal stone
This stone commemorates a visit by the royal family in Älvsbyn 1927
Monument - Galaxen
The monument “Galaxen” is a tribute to the writer and astronomer
Knut Lundmark 1889-1958, who was born in a small village outside
Älvsbyn.
The Petrol Museum
The museum has one of northern Europe’s largest collections of
petrol-related nostalgia such as spare parts, advertising objects
and motor magazines. Open during the summer.

The Kanis area
The mountain Kanis outside Älvsbyn offers downhill or cross-country
skiing in the winter. Here you can also find a
greyhound racetrack and every summer there is a number of races.
Storforsen –The spectacular Storforsen - The greatest of
the free-flowing rapids in Europe.
With a total fall of 82 meters, the rapids at Storforsen are the
largest in Europe and by far the most impressive sights in the
region. The area around Storforsen is well provided with footpaths
and walkways that allow the visitors to look at the rapids safely
from the edge of the river. Away from the main river it is possible
to walk amongst smaller streams, natural pools and rapids.
Storforsen Nature Reserve
The area around Storforsen is a nature reserve. There are a number
of barbeque areas, footpaths and a museum of forestry and timber
floating. This is also a place for different cultural events every
summer.

Fällforsen
The river Pite älv forms a beautiful waterfall at Fällforsen. The
fall, with a height of 11 metres is impressive.

Laver Mining Community
During the Second World War a copper mine was established at Laver,
50 kilometres west of Älvsbyn. Although the mine only lasted for ten
years Laver grew into Sweden’s most modern community. Today the
streets, the foundations and the waste pond is a reminder of the
glory of Laver.
Manjärv – the cultural village
Manjärv is located between Älvsbyn and Storforsen. Here you can walk
to a grave dating back to the Stone Age, where probably the oldest
man of Scandinavia was buried.
The village was a meeting place for Swedish and Lapish culture.
